OPEN TOP LOADING
Transporting Large, Heavy Over-Sized Loads
Bring us your specialized freight - construction machinery, pipe, modules, pipe reels, and drilling towers... we'll be happy to to work with you to get it where you want it to go.
What Is An Open Top Load?
Anything attached to a flat, open rail car is an open top load. Open top loads can include machinery attached with chains and binders; pipe attached to staked flat cars with metal banding and pallets of building materials - all are open top loads.
Complete Turnkey Service
We can provide you with complete service for loading within Alaska, in Seattle or anywhere in the United States and Canada.
Additionally, the Alaska Railroad Corporation (ARRC) will assist you by providing loading diagrams and will perform a car inspection once your equipment is loaded.
Clearances:
ARRC also provides a clearance service for your freight. This means we can determine whether the dimensions of your load will be able to move over railroads throughout Alaska, Canada, and the United States. For tight clearances in Alaska we can provide a tunnel "walkthrough" service.
Weights and Measures
The shipper or loader must give Customer Service accurate measurements of equipment and or shipment, including center of gravity information (if applicable). Over-length loads must be pre-authorized by ARRC.
These are the general guidelines for shipping open top loads. For information on car loading , clearances, booking, and car location, call Alaska Railroad Customer Service.
