Presented by the Alaska Railroad Safety Division and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the Whistle Stop Tour provides FREE emergency and hazmat training, specifically designed for: Emergency Service Providers and First Responders, including:
- Police and Firefighters
- Emergency Medical Personnel & Rescue Teams
- Public Works, Transportation and Facility Public Officials
- Passenger train accident emergency response
- Hazardous material incident emergency response
- Railroad response safety
The Whistle Stop tour underscores the importance of emergency planning, and offers local emergency response groups hands-on training. This is an extraordinary opportunity to help community responders and residents to open a dialogue about responding to emergencies involving trains.
Demonstrations and presentations provide critical up-to-date information about which chemicals are transported through your areas, and how the Alaska Railroad manages risks associated with transporting these chemicals. In addition, rescue technicians, medics, firefighters and other emergency response personnel will learn how best to partner and coordinate with the railroad in emergency situations.
As a token of our appreciation for emergency responders taking time to participate, the Alaska Railroad is offering a Door Prize Drawing at each Whistle Stop. An overall Grand Prize will be offered for everyone who participates throughout the Whistle Stop - this is a robust Home Emergency Preparedness Kit. In addition, there will be three prizes given at EACH Whistle Stop. These include:
- First Prize: 2 round-trip rail tickets for 2008 Passenger Season
- Smaller Prize: 2008 Alaska Railroad Collector's Poster
- Smaller Prize: 2008 Emergency Kit (compliments of the Mat-Su Borough)
To participate, or for more information, please contact the Alaska Railroad Environmental Services & Emergency Response Manager Marc Peterson at: 265-2535 or petersonm@akrr.com.
