EMERGENCY RESPONSE WHISTLE STOP TOUR

The 2008 Alaska Railroad Emergency Response Whistle Stop Tour marks the third year that the railroad and partners will bring emergency preparedness and response training to communities along the railroad track - at no charge! The Whistle Stop train is set to roll into 10 railbelt communities from March 31 through April 12, equipped to offer practical information and instruction aimed at preventing and preparing for a variety of emergency situations. The tour begins in Seward, with subsequent stops in Whittier, Palmer, Wasilla, Talkeetna, Healy, Nenana, Clear AFS and Fairbanks. The last stop is Anchorage.

Emergency Responders
The event offers classroom and hands-on training specifically designed for: Emergency Service Providers and First Responders, including police, firefighter, emergency medical personnel, as well as public works, transportation and facility official

General Public
The general public is also invited to browse through a mobile “fair” via railcars dedicated to public education on a variety of emergency situations. Alaskans will find materials that empower them in the realms of fire safety, track / train safety, natural disaster preparation, crime prevention, and more.

Elementary Schools
Elementary schools in the smaller rural communities along the line are invited to bring students to the train for special train safety presentations, and to gather important emergency / safety materials for classroom study and to bring home.
